Here you can find answers to the most common questions we get concerning the Directory of Associations.
Q: How current is the data?
Like anything that is published, it is out of date as soon as it is published. So we are always updating the association records. We have tried with limited success to get the associations to update their own data but, "if you want something done you have to do it yourself!" We are fully transparent and display the date we last updated each record. You should note that larger associations are usually quite stable and stay in the same location for many years. The only thing that may change is the executive director. Smaller associations are less stable and come and go.
Q: What information comes in a download?
Click this link to see an actual sample of the download. Directory#, CompanyName, Contact, Title, Address1, Address2, City, State, Zip, Country, Phone, Fax, Email, Website, MemberCount, Founded, DirectoryType, and Category. There maybe some fields that are blank or contain a 0. This means that the association doesn't want this information availble to the public or they do not provide it. So for example, if the MemberCount = 0 it doesn't mean they have 0 members, it just means they don't provide that information publicly.
Q: What format is the data download?
It comes in a standard CSV (Comma Separated Value) format and will open automatically in Excel and can be imported into your contact list, email marketing system, database, or CRM. If you don't currently have a CRM, you should definitely check out this CRM - It's the Bomb! It works perfectly with our data and the company will even import it for you! You definitely should check it out. We recently moved all our systems to this platform and we love it!
Q: I can see the information for Free, but if I want to save time and download it-- How much does it cost?
It is very inexpensive, because some of the data may be out of date we charge only enough to keep someone updating it -it is $0.03/record so even if some records are out of date you will still get plenty of good data and it will be well worth it. We are currently experimenting with allowing you to download the entire database for $349 which is $0.009/record.
Q: What am I allowed to do with the data?
You can use it for leads, put it in your CRM, and pretty much whatever that will benefit your organization. The only restriction for use is that you can't sell or resell the data.
Q: Will I have success using this list to do an email blast?
Probably not, if you are buying the list only to do an email blast then you should save your money. Just think about it, when someone sends you an email that you don't have a relationship with, they aren't going to respond favorably. If you use this list to develop a relationship with the associations you are targeting you are going to find much more success!
Q: How can I find out what data fields are filled?
Take a look at our STATs page to get the latest stats on the number of records and fields that we have data for.
Q: Is the Association market a viable way to get my products sold?
It certainly can be! The association market is a way to get in front of large groups of people in a specific target market. This works great for hotels, seminar presenters, software companies, authors, speakers, etc. We have personally found a great deal of success by presenting at association national conferences and we always found customers from our speaking engagements.
Q: What if I find a record that has old or incorrect information. Do I get a refund?
For every record you find with incorrect data, just send us the record and the problem you found (For example, "Association for html developers - the email bounced.") And we'll research it and find the corrected info and send it back to you! Sorry we don't give refunds because there are too many dishonest people out there but, we will fix whatever problems you find! How's that for a guarantee.
