Industry and Marketing Research. There is much to be learned from professional and trade associations.
The Health Facilities Association of Maryland (HFAM) is a voluntary trade association comprised of 150 provider members and 80 associate business members. HFAM represents every type of long-term care provider, including assisted living, sub-acute, rehabilitation and skilled nursing facilities. HFAM’s membership ranges from small, local, family-owned independent nursing facilities to faith-based nonprofit organizations to the state and country’s largest multi-national corporations. HFAM facilities are found in every community, county and city across Maryland. HFAM actively serves the long-term care community and represents its members and consumers collectively to more than thirty state, county and local governmental agencies. Much of the work of our professional staff and board of directors involves creating dialogue with these agencies on proposed laws and regulations. Additionally, HFAM aids in the education of state legislators on long-term care priorities during the 90-day Maryland General Assembly session. HFAM also works to help inform the public on how to choose and enter a long-term care facility. Support is given to long-term care community residents in addition to guidance on services, fees, policies, patient rights and related matters. Consumers can locate a facility or access consumer products and information. HFAM’s mission is to innovatively lead the long-term care community to ensure that the people of Maryland receive comprehensive care and service, and an enhanced quality of life.
