About This Association

The Capital Area Light Flyers (CALF) Club is an incorporated, nonprofit, flying club formed in 1981 for the purpose of bringing together people interested in the sport of Hang Gliding and Ultralight flying. The club meets on the first Wednesday of each month at various members homes and has nearly 150 members. A newsletter is published for the membership on a monthly basis. We invite you to join us at one of our monthly meetings or at one of our many flying activities throughout out the year. We believe the association will be beneficial to both of us . Whether you are new to the sport or a long time pilot, or just curious about light aircraft, you should get to know us. As our name implies, our members come from a five state area surrounding the Nations Capital, with the majority located within a 50 mile radius of the White House. We fly anything and everything: motorized hang gliders ( Trikes ), gyrocopters, prehistoric and modern Ultralights and powered parachutes. If something is going on concerning light aircraft, we will know about it and so can you. The Capital Area Light Flyers affiliation with the United States Ultralight Association (USUA) and other ultralight clubs in the area, assures you of getting the latest news about what and where this sport is going. In addition , we have our own fly-ins scheduled from spring through fall. Those of you who have already made the move to ultralight aviation will find a large pool of knowledge and support to draw from. We clam to be experts and collectively have a lot of experience tracking down instructors, aircraft, engines, and oddball parts, plus finding landing fields that welcome us for what we are.
