Industry and Marketing Research. There is much to be learned from professional and trade associations.
Shortly after World War II, a group of businessmen came together to explore activities that would help our city. In the early years, they promoted recreation and funded the Clinton Youth Council and summer programs for children. To support local businesses, they sponsored “Treasure Day” on Saturdays. When the citizens purchased something at a local merchant, they could submit a ticket for a drawing the next Saturday. It was said that the city streets could become quite congested on the days of the drawing! Originally formed as a business organization, the Chamber became more organized in the early 1960s and was officially incorporated on December 10, 1965. Over the years, the Chamber sponsored “Buy in Clinton” campaigns, promoted Clinton historical events, assisted with projects such as the Parkway, endorsed bond issues for the public schools, and much more, always striving to be relevant and responsive to Clinton’s community and the business needs. For the last 50+ years, businesses, organizations, and individuals have joined the chamber to help make this a better place to live and in turn make it a better place to do business. The Chamber unites business people and organizations to create coalitions to expand the economy and improve our lifestyle. Our strength lies in the number and diversity of the chamber membership and the more members we have, the better we can represent our community. The Clinton Chamber of Commerce accomplishes collectively what no one business or person could do alone!
