About This Association
The American College of Foot and Ankle Pediatrics strives to disseminate new and advanced information on the latest techniques in pediatric foot and ankle care. This is done through our participation in seminars, lectures, publications and digital media. We dispense information to the public at large as well as our peers on the proper care of their child’s feet and also promote commitment to, and excellence in, the medical and surgical management of pediatric foot and ankle pathologies. ACFAP is the APMA’s only recognized clinical interest group for the management of pediatric foot and ankle pathologies. As an Affiliate Clinical Interest Group, under the APMA, our goal is to educate both our colleagues and the general public on the importance of caring for children’s feet. A well-rounded foot and ankle specialist is someone who recognizes the implications of foot ailments at the earliest of ages in order to prevent adult problems. Knowing how to deal with concerns before they happen (the principal of preventative care) can help facilitate a lifelong normalcy of activity and prevent many acquired adult issues. The feet are the foundation of the body, and even before a child takes their first step, deficiencies in the lower extremity begin to create a destructive domino effect on the rest of the human body. It is our job as foot and ankle specialists to make sure the feet are taken care of.
